Digital Tone An Entrepreneurs Guide to Security Operations

The Reality of Modern Security

Most security books tell you what to do. This one tells you why so much of what the industry does isn't working - and what a data-first, intelligence-first approach actually looks like in practice.

Digital Tone is the honest account of Raju Chekuri's journey building Velio, OpsRamp, and the Resolution Intelligence Cloud at Netenrich. It covers what he got right, what he got badly wrong, and the frameworks that turn security data into genuine operational intelligence.

Whether you're a security leader, technologist, or builder, this guide was written to be useful, not to sell you something.

Inside The Ebook

What you'll learn

Nine critical lessons that challenge the status quo of enterprise security operations, mapped out in a practical guide.

What "digital tone" really means - why your enterprise is a living system with a unique rhythm, and why understanding that rhythm is the foundation of effective security

Why most security programs are built backwards - starting with threats instead of assets - and how the ACT framework (Assets, Controls, Threats) reorders the question to drive genuinely actionable priorities

How the LIC scoring engine (Likelihood, Impact, Confidence) moves security operations from binary, deterministic thinking to the probabilistic model that matches how adversaries actually operate

Why data quality - not more detection rules, is the root cause of alert fatigue, and what "left-shifting" intelligence work looks like in practice

How a knowledge graph that never forgets turns institutional memory into a system property, so expertise doesn't walk out the door when analysts do

What nine AI agents running in production actually taught about the difference between "human in the loop" and "human on the loop", and why that distinction changes everything operationally

Why the biggest shift in enterprise security isn't a technology change, it's an operating model change, from processing alerts to actively hunting what detection doesn't surface

What CISOs need to own differently in 2026: data science sponsorship, talent strategy, and translating risk into board language

What "digital tone" really means, why your enterprise is a living system with a unique rhythm, and why understanding that rhythm is the foundation of effective security.

CEO - RAJU CHEKURI
"

When the telecom bubble collapsed and the board pushed for a sale that would have compromised those customers, Raju refused and resigned instead. Bill Dally, one of Velio's core technologists, is now Chief Scientist at Nvidia. Sixteen members of that team are there today.

Raju Chekuri is the Founder, Chairman, President, and CEO of Netenrich, Inc., a cybersecurity intelligence company based in San Jose, California. Over 22 years, he has built three enterprise technology platforms from the ground up, each one teaching him something the last could not.

His first company, Chip2Chip, started as a signal integrity consulting firm and evolved into Velio Communications, a semiconductor company that raised $100 million from Sequoia Capital and Redpoint, and built SerDes technology its customers described as an order of magnitude better than anything else in the market. Velio's customers included Lucent, Tellabs, Ciena, Fujitsu, and Marconi.

In 2004, Raju founded Netenrich and built OpsRamp, a cloud-native IT operations management platform built to displace a generation of legacy giants: IBM Tivoli, CA Unicenter, HP OpenView, BMC Patrol. OpsRamp was acquired by HPE and became the foundation of HPE's SaaS operations story. It also revealed the observation that would drive the next chapter: enterprises were drowning in data across disconnected silos, with no unified view of their actual digital reality.

In 2018, Raju rebuilt Netenrich from the ground up as a security-first, data-first, intelligence-first company, without raising a single dollar of outside capital. The Resolution Intelligence Cloud, built natively on Google SecOps and BigQuery, now serves 200-plus enterprise customers across industries and geographies. Nine AI agents run in production. The knowledge graph that powers the platform grows smarter every hour, accumulating intelligence across every customer environment simultaneously.

Beyond his work in security, Raju is developing Chekuri Estate, a boutique winery in California's Livermore Valley where Entrepreneur Wines will celebrate the builders who swim against the current in Silicon Valley. The infinity symbol at the heart of the estate pays tribute to his father Anantham, whose name means endless and infinite in Sanskrit.

He lives in Pleasanton, California, and can be reached at netenrich.com and on LinkedIn
